I am very excited about the Women’s Forum program we are putting together for the upcoming P&G Alumni Reunion. We are leveraging the theme from the main Reunion program: “Postcards from the Emerging Edge” and applying that to a cross section of topics as they relate to emerging trends in women’s issues, addressed in a way that will appeal to women and men alike. As previously highlighted, we are extremely pleased to have Daniela Riccardi, CEO of Diesel, join us as our keynote speaker on Thursday evening during our opening dinner. We follow that with our program on Friday morning, made up of three different sessions.

We start the day looking at Emerging Trends in Business: C-Suite and Boardroom Impact, exploring where women are today with respect to the percentage of senior level positions they hold in companies and on boards, and what is involved in moving this forward. We have great speakers who will share case studies highlighting successes in this area. The first of these is Jim Muzyka, Executive Champion of the Women’s Alliance within Xerox. Jim was recently honoured by the Association of Canadian Women in Communications with the Champion of Women’s Advancement Award. He will share his experience as a member of a Board which had just one woman on it when he joined, something he was determined to change. He proposed that the Board undertake a committed, measurable initiative to achieve greater gender diversity and within a year the initiative had moved the number from one woman to six. Check back again in the coming weeks to hear about the other case studies to be shared.

Our second session will be a panel discussion on Emerging Trends in Philanthropy: Social Impact, looking at the growing wealth among women and how this is impacting philanthropic efforts. When thinking about charitable work women have traditionally been considered larger donators of time than of money. Whether or not this was in fact true, the significant increase in women’s wealth over the past decades has meant that financial contribution to philanthropic efforts is on the rise. We have a terrific panel of women, all of whom touch philanthropy from different angles, who will discuss the impact of this shift. We are delighted to have: Terry Smith, Founder and CEO of Philanthropic.ca; Nancy Griffin, Senior Investment Advisor at Macquarie Private Wealth Inc.; Cynthia Round, Executive Vice President Brand Leadership for United Way Worldwide; and Vanessa Yakobson, Managing Director Development & Strategy for POGO (Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario), joining us.

We’ll wrap up the morning with an interactive session on Emerging Trends in Well-Being: Living with Impact, looking at the essential elements of leading a vibrant life. The session will be led by Ingrid Rivera and Ute Hagen, both members of the P&G Alumni Women’s Forum Board, and will leverage learnings from the recent book: Well Being – The Five Essential Elements (Rath & Harter, 2010). Based on global Gallup research the book identifies: Career/Personal Development Well-Being; Social Well-Being; Financial Well-Being; Physical Well-Being; and Community Well-Being as the five essential elements to living a long, vibrant life. In this session you’ll get to hear more about each of these areas, get the chance to look at the role each of these currently plays in your own life, and get to exchange tips and successes with others.

I look forward to seeing all of you there!
